HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 736

Commending Chuck Pruitt.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 18, 2025

WHEREAS, Chuck Pruitt, an influential leader in youth athletics, has been a guiding force for the expansion of boys' volleyball programs throughout Fairfax County and created countless new opportunities for young people in the area; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Pruitt founded McLean Youth Volleyball (MYV) in 2012 with three leagues of about 200 girls and has grown the program to serve more than 1,000 co-ed players in eight leagues; and

WHEREAS, under Chuck Pruitt's leadership, MYV has provided clinics run by USA Volleyball-certified coaches to develop foundational skills such as passing, setting, hitting, and serving to help young people achieve their fullest potential on the court; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Pruitt has worked with gym teachers and school administrators at 10 public schools in Fairfax County to provide safe, modern volleyball equipment for students and MYV athletes using the gyms at these schools; the initiative was entirely funded by MYV with no cost to the schools; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, Chuck Pruitt started a recreational volleyball league in McLean for elementary and middle school boys; by promoting skill development at a younger age, he ensured that there was a growing local interest in the sport; and

WHEREAS, exemplifying his passion for youth volleyball, Chuck Pruitt has worked with school administrators, coaches, and parents over the course of a decade to successfully establish boys' volleyball as a varsity sport in all high schools in Fairfax County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work with young people, Chuck Pruitt founded an outdoor co-ed adult pick-up volleyball league in 2012; and

WHEREAS, as the volleyball representative for the Fairfax County Athletic Council for eight years, Chuck Pruitt collaborated with volleyball groups across Fairfax County to provide input for the county's planning process; he has also been a board member of McLean Youth Athletics for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, Chuck Pruitt won the Fairfax County Champions of Character Award for outstanding sportsmanship and achievement in pursuing victory with honor by demonstrating good character; and

WHEREAS, Chuck Pruitt has touched countless lives through his kindness and generosity and built an incredible sense of camaraderie between volleyball players, coaches, and fans in Northern Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Chuck Pruitt hereby be commended for his incredible legacy of contributions to the development of youth volleyball in Fairfax County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chuck Pruitt as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his service to the Fairfax County community.
