HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 720
Commending the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 18, 2025
WHEREAS, the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping older adults maintain their independence and live in their own homes, has greatly served the Fairfax County community for many years; and
WHEREAS, the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke provides a variety of services and enrichment programs with the support of its hardworking volunteers, who use the knowledge and skills acquired over their lifetimes to offer assistance to their peers; and
WHEREAS, the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke offers free transportation services to any older adult in its service areas, enabling its clients to attend their medical and rehabilitation appointments and to go shopping as needed; and
WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke's drivers volunteered more than 14,000 hours, traveling in excess of 144,000 miles over 11,000 one-way trips; and
WHEREAS, the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke organizes a number of social, educational, and enrichment programs to build connections between older adults in the community and to enhance their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, by empowering older adults to live independently with purpose and dignity, the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke has helped to make Fairfax County a wonderful place to live, work, and retire; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke hereby be commended for its legacy of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Shepherd's Center of Fairfax-Burke as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to Fairfax County and the Commonwealth.
