HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 719

Celebrating the life of Joshua Plante.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 18, 2025

WHEREAS, Joshua Plante, an acclaimed chef and restaurateur who was owner and executive chef of the Fermented Pig in Vienna, died on June 12, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Plante founded the Fermented Pig in 2018 and grew the artisanal, farm-to-table meat business into a cherished community institution; and

WHEREAS, beyond its regular presence at local farmers markets, Joshua Plante's Fermented Pig permeated the Northern Virginia culinary scene through partnerships with the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts and Settle Down Easy Brewing Co. and had recently opened a retail store in Merrifield; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Plante left an indelible imprint on the Northern Virginia community as a tireless advocate for local businesses and restaurants and as a generous mentor to many aspiring food professionals; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Plante's efforts created memorable culinary experiences for an untold number of individuals and families as he brought people together around delicious, thoughtfully crafted meals; and

WHEREAS, Joshua Plante will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by numerous family members, friends, and patrons; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Joshua Plante, a beloved member of the Vienna community whose passion, vision, and generosity made an impact on countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joshua Plante as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
