HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 702

Commending Moore and Giles.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 20, 2025

WHEREAS, Moore and Giles, located near Lynchburg, has been producing and distributing high quality leather products for more than 90 years, making it one of the oldest continuously operating leather companies in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Moore and Giles was established as a family-owned business in the midst of the Great Depression in 1933; the company originally sold shoemaking materials but ultimately expanded to offer leather goods and design solutions for a broad range of markets; and

WHEREAS, Moore and Giles evolved to meet changes in customer needs, becoming a chief supplier of leather for home furnishings, and was a pioneer in leather goods for clients in the fine-dining, hospitality, automotive, maritime, and aviation industries; and

WHEREAS, leather products from Moore and Giles have adorned the furnishings in high-end restaurants and hotels, elevated the comfort level of cabins and cockpits in private jets, and graced the interiors of luxury yachts and bespoke automobiles; and

WHEREAS, Moore and Giles uses the finest raw materials from around the world, which are processed at historic, family-owned tanneries by experienced artisans who tan, mill, and finish hides thoughtfully and responsibly to ensure the highest quality product; and

WHEREAS, Moore and Giles offers an incomparable number of color and texture options, guaranteeing clients will find the perfect leather for any project; in recent years, the company also expanded to offer heirloom travel bags, home goods, and other leather accessories; and

WHEREAS, Moore and Giles is not only a recognized leader in the leather industry, but a crucial contributor to the local economy in Central Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Moore and Giles hereby be commended for more than 90 years of exceptional service to customers around the world; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Moore and Giles as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its longevity and legacy of excellence in the leather industry.
