HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 697

Celebrating the life of Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O'Hara, USA.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025

WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O'Hara, USA, a helicopter crew chief with the United States Army, died during a training mission on January 29, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Ryan O'Hara grew up in Lilburn, Georgia, where he attended Parkview High School and was a member of the United States Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program; and

WHEREAS, Ryan O'Hara subsequently joined the United States Army and deployed to Afghanistan from March 2017 to August 2017, then served at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia from 2020 to 2023; and

WHEREAS, Ryan O'Hara was most recently stationed at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, where he was a member of the 12th Aviation Battalion, under the United States Army Military District of Washington; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his military career, Ryan O'Hara received the Army Commendation Medal, four Army Achievement Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, and several other awards and decorations; and

WHEREAS, Ryan O'Hara will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife; his son; and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow soldiers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O'Hara, USA, a dedicated member of the United States Army who devoted his life to the service of others; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Staff Sergeant Ryan Austin O'Hara, USA, as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
