HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 664
Celebrating the life of Gladys Delores Argro Kidd.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025
WHEREAS, Gladys Delores Argro Kidd, an active and beloved member of the Richmond community, died on October 4, 2024; and
WHEREAS, born and raised in Richmond, Gladys Kidd attended Armstrong High School, where her meticulous handwriting earned her a number of awards; and
WHEREAS, Gladys Kidd was the matriarch of her family and devoted her life to raising both her five children and the children of her two late sisters; and
WHEREAS, Gladys Kidd was committed to ensuring the spiritual, social, and emotional well-being of her children and their extended family, serving on the parent-teacher associations at their schools, hosting regular family gatherings, and leading them in their Bible studies; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her remarkable efforts as a homemaker of a large family, Gladys Kidd worked for many years with Friedman & Marks Clothing Company and later at AT&T, where she retired; and
WHEREAS, both as a member of the Violetts Social Club and as social coordinator at the Grand Richmond at Brook Run in Richmond, Gladys Kidd was always bringing people together to foster a greater sense of community and togetherness; and
WHEREAS, guided throughout her life by her faith, Gladys Kidd enjoyed worship and fellowship with her family and friends at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Richmond for several years, where she sang with the E.C. Kent Choir, and she was also later a dedicated member of Saint Paul's Baptist Church in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Gladys Kidd served as a member of the Women's Guild at her church, working tirelessly to co-host Bible study sessions, an annual women's conference, and other community outreach events; and
WHEREAS, Gladys Kidd will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her loving children, Pamela, Wilma, Lemuel III, Henrietta, and Lucy, and their families and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Gladys Delores Argro Kidd, a revered member of the Richmond community whose kindness, compassion, and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gladys Delores Argro Kidd as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
