HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 663

Celebrating the life of Dr. Wilbert L. Jenkins.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025

WHEREAS, Dr. Wilbert L. Jenkins, an esteemed education administrator and beloved member of the Richmond community, died on January 13, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Wilbert Jenkins devoted many years to the academic, social, and emotional well-being of Richmond's students in various leadership capacities with Richmond Public Schools, including as a principal and as director of instruction; and

WHEREAS, Wilbert Jenkins served as assistant superintendent with Richland County Public Schools in South Carolina, contributing greatly to the success of the school division's students and faculty; and

WHEREAS, in the final years of his career, Wilbert Jenkins was senior advisor to the president of Virginia Union University, guiding the institution of higher education through a period of growth and development; and

WHEREAS, preceded in death by his wife, Betty, Wilbert Jenkins will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his daughters, Velma and Jennifer, and their families and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dr. Wilbert L. Jenkins, a cherished member of the Richmond community whose dedication and service inspired all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Wilbert L. Jenkins as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
