HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 655

Commending the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025

WHEREAS, the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship in 2024; and

WHEREAS, led by head coach Jeff Webster and assistant coach Amy Smith, the Clarke County High School Eagles began the postseason by winning the Bull Run District championship by 31 points and the Region 2B championship by 29 points; and

WHEREAS, in the state final, held at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the Clarke County Eagles placed four runners in the top 15 and finished with 49 points overall to defeat the second-place team from Floyd County by a comfortable 33-point margin; and

WHEREAS, senior James Casey led the Clarke County Eagles with a third place finish and a time of 16:42.6, followed by senior Jackson Ellis in sixth place with a time of 16:56.3, senior Aidan Kreeb in 10th place with 17:02.9, and sophomore Landon Horton in 15th place with a time of 17:20.8; and

WHEREAS, the other members of the Clarke County Eagles—Brody Ellis, Jonathan Hornbaker, Luke LaMaster, Matthew Lisk, Warren Maiburger, and Carter Starley—also made numerous contributions to the victorious season; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Webster, who also coached the Clarke County girls' cross country team to a second-place finish, was selected as the Cross Country Coach of the Year by the Winchester Star; and

WHEREAS, the victorious campaign was a tribute to the skill and perseverance of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Clarke County High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeff Webster, head coach of the Clarke County High School boys' cross country team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
