HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 636

Commending Wareing's Gym.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025

WHEREAS, over the past 65 years, Wareing's Gym in Virginia Beach has promoted health and wellness in the community by providing countless individuals with an exceptional space to pursue their fitness goals; and

WHEREAS, following in the footsteps of his father, Bill Wareing, Sr., a noted physical culturist from New York City, John Wareing opened Wareing's Gym in Virginia Beach in 1960; and

WHEREAS, through his charisma and force of personality, John Wareing built a fitness movement in Virginia Beach that centered around Wareing's Gym; and

WHEREAS, John Wareing's sons assumed leadership of Wareing's Gym in 1978 and redoubled the family's longstanding commitment to excellence and to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community at the gym; and

WHEREAS, through its customer-centric approach, Wareing's Gym has placed a greater emphasis on the gym's culture over its equipment and programming, helping the gym to achieve its mission of being the best part of every patron's day; and

WHEREAS, the reputation that Wareing's Gym has for honesty, integrity, and quality instruction has attracted fitness enthusiasts from all walks of life, who have found a community devoted to lifting them up as they seek to achieve their full potential; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of Wareing's Gym are the result of the passion and dedication of its leaders, the hard work and determination of its staff, and the unflagging efforts and support of its patrons and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Wareing's Gym in Virginia Beach hereby be commended on the occasion of its 65th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wareing's Gym as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
