HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 608

Commending Charles August Swanson.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 6, 2025

WHEREAS, in 2024, Charles August Swanson of Richmond represented the Commonwealth at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France, winning a gold medal and a silver medal for Team USA in the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay and 4x100-meter men's medley relay events, respectively; and

WHEREAS, Charles “Charlie” August Swanson attended St. Christopher's School in Richmond and the University of Michigan, where he won five Big Ten Conference championship titles, including four consecutive titles in the 400-yard individual medley event; and

WHEREAS, at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2019, Charlie Swanson won gold medals in the 400-meter individual medley event and the 4x100-meter mixed freestyle relay event, achieving a world-ranking of fourth in his individual event that year; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Swanson is an eight-time member of the USA Swimming National Team and has swum professionally for Energy Standard in the International Swimming League, helping the team to win a championship in the season he competed; and

WHEREAS, prior to his first appearance at the Olympics, Charlie Swanson competed in the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in 2022, placing 11th in the 200-meter breaststroke event; and

WHEREAS, through his accomplishments as a competitive swimmer, Charlie Swanson has demonstrated what may be achieved through extraordinary hard work and dedication and brought pride to the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Charles August Swanson hereby be commended on winning a gold and a silver medal at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles August Swanson as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his outstanding athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
