HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 589

Commending Stan Holloway.



Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 7, 2025

WHEREAS, Stan Holloway, the track and field coach at Oscar Smith High School and a trusted mentor to young people, has helped countless student-athletes achieve their fullest potential in athletics, academics, and community leadership; and

WHEREAS, Stan Holloway helped turn Oscar Smith High School, long recognized as a perennial favorite in Virginia High School League football, into a formidable contender in track and field through his dedication and visionary leadership; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, Stan Holloway was selected as the USA Today Track and Field Coach of the Year after the Oscar Smith High School Tigers finished as runners-up in the team standings of the indoor and outdoor track and field state championships; and

WHEREAS, under Stan Holloway's leadership, the Oscar Smith boys' track and field team made history by sweeping the individual titles at the 2019 New Balance Nationals Outdoor meet, winning the shuttle hurdle relay, the 400-meter hurdles event, and the 110-meter hurdles event; and

WHEREAS, Stan Holloway also leads the Track 757 Track and Field Club, where his sons, Trey Holloway and Grant Holloway, began their journeys to becoming elite track and field athletes; and

WHEREAS, Stan Holloway has gone above and beyond to support the student-athletes in his care, working diligently to develop their talents on the track, while helping them gain self-confidence, perseverance, and leadership abilities that will serve them well in later life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Stan Holloway, one of the top high school track and field coaches in the nation, hereby be commended for his legacy of service to young people; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stan Holloway as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his exceptional achievements as a coach and his contributions to Chesapeake and the Commonwealth.
