HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 588

Commending the Carrollton Ruritan Club.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 10, 2025

WHEREAS, the Carrollton Ruritan Club, a local chapter of Ruritan National, Inc., which is dedicated to aiding the Carrollton community and the surrounding areas in Isle of Wight County through fellowship, goodwill, and service, celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, since it was chartered in 1950, the Carrollton Ruritan Club has made a positive and lasting impact on the Carrollton community through various charitable events and initiatives; and

WHEREAS, the Carrollton Ruritan Club raises organizational funds through facility rentals and a biannual fish fry, which it then distributes to assist youth activities, nonprofit social service organizations, and other endeavors in support of the community; and

WHEREAS, the Carrollton Ruritan Club fosters the growth and well-being of young people by sponsoring a local troop of the Boy Scouts of America, offering college scholarships to local students, and organizing Christmas toy drives; and

WHEREAS, the Carrollton Ruritan Club helps to beautify its surrounding area by participating in the Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway program, collecting trash and maintaining the road along a section of Brewer's Neck Boulevard in Carrollton; and

WHEREAS, the Carrollton Ruritan Club has broadened its influence in the region by assisting neighboring Ruritan clubs in Isle of Wight County, including the Possum Hollow Ruritan Club, which its members helped charter in 1987; and

WHEREAS, at the organization's annual dinner on February 25, 2025, the Carrollton Ruritan Club will honor its diamond jubilee alongside the outgoing and incoming presidents of Ruritan National, as well as distinguished members of other Ruritan Clubs from the Tidewater Region; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Carrollton Ruritan Club are the result of the unwavering commitment of the organization's volunteer members, who have helped to make Carrollton and Isle of Wight County wonderful places to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Carrollton Ruritan Club hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dale Jones, president of the Carrollton Ruritan Club, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to Carrollton, Isle of Wight County, and the Commonwealth.
