HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 587
Commending McKay Used Books.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 10, 2025
WHEREAS, McKay Used Books, a beloved purveyor of second-hand literature and other offerings in Manassas, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023; and
WHEREAS, McKay Used Books is a women-owned business that was founded in 1983 by Frances Anderson and is currently owned by her daughter, Carolanne Petrusiak, and her co-owner, Danielle Parady; and
WHEREAS, McKay Used Books initially operated out of a location in Centreville, then expanded to a second location in Manassas, which became the store's sole location when the Centreville shop later closed; and
WHEREAS, McKay Used Books is a 20,000-square-foot book emporium that provides its customers with a unique and enjoyable shopping experience; and
WHEREAS, with an array of theme-based shelves, McKay Used Books encourages its customers to explore and discover new literary treasures; and
WHEREAS, in recent years, McKay Used Books has expanded beyond strictly selling books to also offer an alluring assortment of music, board games, video games, toys, puzzles, and more; and
WHEREAS, McKay Used Books brings people together by regularly hosting entertaining literary-themed events, such as author meet-and-greets and children's story time; and
WHEREAS, McKay Used Books has generously supported the community through various endeavors, including donations to Fauquier County-based nonprofit FRESH Reads and gifts of store credit to public school teachers in Manassas and the Counties of Prince William, Fauquier, Loudoun, and Fairfax; and
WHEREAS, by serving as a refuge for the literary inclined for the past 40 years, McKay Used Books has helped to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That McKay Used Books hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to McKay Used Books as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes for its continued success.
