HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 751
Celebrating the life of Thomas Cahill Johnson.

WHEREAS, Thomas Cahill Johnson, a highly admired member of the Fairfax County community and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on November 19, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Thomas “Tom” Cahill Johnson was born in Gardiner, Maine, and moved to the Commonwealth with his family at a young age; he graduated from McLean High School, where he met the love of his life, Susan Johnson, née Overholt; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson worked as a project manager in the international telecommunications and transportation industries, including 30 years for the world's largest fixed satellite services operator, Intelsat, and later for Amtrak, O3B, and The World Bank; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson is remembered in his professional life, just as in his family life, for the warm support and enduring mentorship he provided colleagues, as well as lighthearted humor and wit; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson was a political activist known for grit and mission-oriented thinking as well as characteristic good humor and joy; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson had an adventurous spirit that brought him on numerous hikes, and his travels took him to every continent except Antarctica; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson was an avid runner who competed in both the Marine Corps and Boston marathons and would often be seen afterward snacking on watermelon, his favorite post-race snack; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson's greatest joy in life was his beloved family, and he relished every opportunity to impart his wisdom to his children and grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Tom Johnson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Susan; his children, Michael, Olivia, and Owen, and their families; and numerous other family members, longtime friends, colleagues, activist allies, running and hiking partners, and fellow adventurers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Thomas Cahill Johnson; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Thomas Cahill Johnson as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
