HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 665

Commending the Thomas A. Edison High School girls' cross country team.

WHEREAS, the Thomas A. Edison High School girls' cross country team of Fairfax County won the Virginia High School League National District championship in Burke Lake on October 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Thomas Edison High School Eagles tallied a total of 69 team points and edged the runner-up Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Colonials by one point to claim the program's first district title since 2009; and

WHEREAS, the Edison Eagles' top five finishers who contributed to the team's overall score included Halle Knott, Rhys Smith, Pauline Maletz, Avery King, and Reagan Roberts, who placed 6th, 8th, 9th, 13th, and 33rd, respectively; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Edison Eagles is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Thomas A. Edison High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Thomas A. Edison High School girls' cross country team for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League National District championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Thomas A. Edison High School girls' cross country team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement.
