HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 664

Commending the John R. Lewis High School boys' soccer team.

Agreed to by the Senate, February 19, 2025

WHEREAS, the John R. Lewis High School boys' soccer team of Springfield won the Virginia High School League Region 6C championship on May 31, 2024; and

WHEREAS, the John R. Lewis High School Lancers defeated the Carter G. Woodson High School Cavaliers of Fairfax County by a score of 2–1 to win the Occoquan Region championship title; and

WHEREAS, on its way to a regional championship title, the John Lewis Lancers overcame the Alexandria City High School Titans by a score of 3–1 to earn a spot in the state championship tournament for the fourth consecutive season; and

WHEREAS, the John Lewis Lancers finished the season with an extraordinary 19–1–1 overall record and were 6–0–1 in regional play; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of their accomplishments over the season, John Lewis Lancers' defender Arnold Reyes was named to the Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state first team, while midfielder Moad Ezzahir and forward Elias Rodriguez were selected for the second team; and

WHEREAS, the success of the John Lewis Lancers is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire John R. Lewis High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the John R. Lewis High School boys' soccer team for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Region 6C championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Millward, coach of the John R. Lewis High School boys' soccer team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
