HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 663

Commending Owen Love.

WHEREAS, Owen Love, a sophomore at Thomas A. Edison High School in Fairfax County, won the Virginia High School League Class 6 individual state golf championship at the Lansdowne Resort in Loudoun County on October 15, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Owen Love shot a round of 70 to finish 2-under-par and secured his second consecutive state championship title after scoring a birdie on the second playoff hole against Raquel Walker of James W. Robinson, Jr. Secondary School in Fairfax County, who also finished regulation play with a score of 70; and

WHEREAS, prior to the playoff, Owen Love's championship round included three birdies and six pars on the front nine and two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine; on the deciding, par-5 playoff hole, he hit a beautiful approach shot out of a fairway sand trap that landed about 15 feet from the hole before sinking his putt for birdie; and

WHEREAS, with his victory, Owen Love became the first golfer to win back-to-back individual state championship titles in the highest enrollment classification of the Virginia High School League (VHSL) since the 1960s; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his accomplishments over the season, which also included an individual VHSL National District championship, Owen Love was named to the VHSL Class 6 all-state golf team in 2024; and

WHEREAS, Owen Love's triumphs are the result of his hard work and dedication, the leadership and guidance of his coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of his family and the entire Thomas A. Edison High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Owen Love for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Class 6 individual state golf championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Owen Love as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements and best wishes for his continued success.
