HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 648

Commending Patricia Miller.

WHEREAS, Patricia Miller is a community leader who has made an indelible imprint on the Del Ray community of Alexandria over the past several decades; and

WHEREAS, Patricia “Pat” Miller relocated to the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria more than 30 years ago and quickly became an active and engaged member of her community; and

WHEREAS, Pat Miller was integral to the success of the Del Ray Farmers Market for many years as its market manager; in 2017, the Alexandria City Council honored her legacy of service by dedicating the Del Ray Farmers Market site as the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square; and

WHEREAS, Pat Miller helped transform the Del Ray Block Party of the 1990s into the nationally known Art on the Avenue event, which annually hosts more than 300 artists, food vendors, and performers; and

WHEREAS, Pat Miller co-founded the shop A Show of Hands, which provides up-and-coming artists the opportunity to showcase their talents to a wider market; and

WHEREAS, as a longtime member and chair of the Alexandria Commission for the Arts, Pat Miller advanced several public art projects and initiatives to support local artists; and

WHEREAS, in various leadership capacities with the Community Partners for Children, Pat Miller was instrumental to Alexandria's largest holiday toy and school supply drives for children in need; and

WHEREAS, Pat Miller promoted the economic well-being and prosperity of Alexandria through her involvement with the Avenue Partnership, as an ex officio member of the Potomac West Alliance Interim Planning Board, and as president and longtime board member of the Del Ray Business Association; and

WHEREAS, as co-chair of the Del Ray Business Association's Special Events Committee, Pat Miller planned cherished events such as First Thursday, Taste of Del Ray, and the local Halloween parade, turkey trot, and holiday tree lighting; and

WHEREAS, Pat Miller's extraordinary dedication and service has helped to make Del Ray a wonderful place to live, work, and play; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Patricia Miller for her impact on the Del Ray community of Alexandria; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia Miller as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to Del Ray and the Commonwealth.
