HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 643

Commending Crews Construction and Asphalt Paving, Inc.

WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Crews Construction and Asphalt Paving, Inc., has provided foundation excavation and a wide range of other land development services to local building contractors and homeowners in Southside Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Crews Construction and Asphalt Paving, originally known as Crews Construction Company, was established in 1974 by Melvin Crews, a heavy equipment operator who had gained extensive experience with landscapers and construction firms in Virginia Beach and Danville; and

WHEREAS, supported by his wife, Joan, who handled the front office, Melvin Crews began offering site excavation, then expanded to land clearing, trenching, and finish grading, among other services; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Melvin and Joan Crews, proudly hired many dedicated and highly skilled employees, several of whom have remained loyal members of the team for years; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving residential and commercial clients, Crews Construction Company grew to offer emergency excavation and grading services after natural or man-made disasters and provided its services to the Virginia Department of Transportation; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, Crews Construction Company purchased Reynolds Asphalt Paving and adopted its current name to better reflect its expanded mission; and

WHEREAS, Melvin and Joan's children, Lin Crews and Jeanette Burger, and Jeanette's husband, Charles Burger, all joined the family business and have since maintained Crews Construction and Asphalt Paving's legacy of excellence; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Crews Construction and Asphalt Paving, Inc., on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Crews Construction and Asphalt Paving, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the company's achievements as one of the premier excavation and land development companies in Southside Virginia.
