HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 617
Commending Boxes of Basics.

WHEREAS, Boxes of Basics, a nonprofit organization based in Prince William County, helps children in need feel comfortable and confident by providing quality, stylish seasonal clothing and other items; and
WHEREAS, Boxes of Basics traces its roots to when Sarah Tyndall put together a box of necessities for a friend experiencing a difficult time; she was inspired to expand the project and worked with friends and neighbors to support other families in need; and
WHEREAS, Boxes of Basics has grown to support more than 1,000 recipients each year, with generous volunteers packing boxes of seasonal outfits, books, and other helpful items at the organization's warehouse and a team of 75 drivers who deliver the boxes to local pick-up points; and
WHEREAS, Boxes of Basics coordinates with school counselors, faith leaders, social workers, and other community organizations to identify and support families in need who may not otherwise qualify for assistance services; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, Boxes of Basics received a Safety Net Fund grant of $15,000, which will allow the organization to further alleviate clothing insecurity in the region by providing outfits to more than 1,500 children from low-income households; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Boxes of Basics for its work to serve and empower young people and their families in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sarah Tyndall, founder and executive director, and Sally Crockett, program manager, of Boxes of Basics as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's legacy of compassionate service to the community.
