HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 534

Commending Ron Montgomery.

WHEREAS, Ron Montgomery, a longtime law-enforcement officer and the current sheriff of York County and the City of Poquoson, has served the community with the utmost dedication and distinction for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, a native of York County, Ron Montgomery joined the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office in 1975 and served as a patrol deputy, major crimes investigator, commander of the Major Crimes Division, and chief deputy over the course of his long and storied career; and

WHEREAS, in January 2023, Ron Montgomery was appointed to fill an unfinished term as the sheriff of York County and the City of Poquoson, and he was officially elected as sheriff in November of that year; and

WHEREAS, Ron Montgomery has upheld the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office's long-standing commitment to excellence; he has continued to build a sense of trust and mutual respect between the office and members of the public and has implemented new and innovative programs to better serve and protect local residents; and

WHEREAS, a highly trained and experienced police officer, Ron Montgomery holds a bachelor's degree from Saint Leo University, as well as certificates from the University of Richmond, the Southern Police Institute, and several other training courses offered by state agencies and the Federal Bureau of Investigation; he is a member of the Virginia Sheriffs' Association, the National Sheriffs' Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police; and

WHEREAS, Ron Montgomery encourages his deputies and staff members to go above and beyond in service to the community; he is a member of the Grafton Kiwanis Club, sits on the boards of the York County Chamber of Commerce and the local Boys & Girls Club, and has volunteered his time and wise leadership to support young people as a football and baseball coach; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ron Montgomery for his 50 years of service to York County and the City of Poquoson as a law-enforcement officer; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ron Montgomery as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of professional achievements and distinguished service to the York County and Poquoson communities.
