Commending Pat B. Huber.

WHEREAS, Pat B. Huber, president of New River Community College, was presented the Citizen of the Valley award by the New River Valley Regional Commission at the Floyd Center for the Arts on October 9, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the New River Valley Regional Commission, comprising the Counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski and the City of Radford, recognized Pat Huber for her notable efforts contributing to the betterment of the New River Valley region; and
WHEREAS, after earning a bachelor's degree in English from Emory & Henry College in 1976, Pat Huber taught in high schools in Smyth and Wythe Counties while earning a master's degree at West Virginia University; and
WHEREAS, Pat Huber moved to Pulaski in 1987 and taught both full-time at Pulaski County High School and part-time at New River Community College (NRCC) through the school's dual enrollment and evening programs; and
WHEREAS, Pat Huber dedicated 25 years to NRCC, including as vice president for instruction and student services and as dean of arts and sciences, before becoming the school's sixth president and its first female president in 2017; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as president of NRCC, Pat Huber has expanded to the entire New River Valley region the Access to Community College Education (ACCE) program, which provides up to two years of tuition to qualifying high school graduates; and
WHEREAS, as a result of Pat Huber's leadership, the ACCE program has helped more than 1,600 students receive college credits, and these students have also contributed more than 175,000 hours of community service through their work in the program; and
WHEREAS, by dedicating herself to ensuring that all aspiring students in the New River Valley have access to a quality and affordable education, Pat Huber has made a difference in countless lives and is deserving of the praise and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Pat B. Huber for being named a 2024 Citizen of the Valley by the New River Valley Regional Commission; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pat B. Huber as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her legacy of service in support of the Commonwealth's young people.
