HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 531
Commending Cakes by Happy Eatery.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025
WHEREAS, Cakes by Happy Eatery, a full-service bakery well known for its inventive, fabulous, and versatile creations in the kitchen, has provided outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, founded by Woei and Fu-Mei Wu in 1984, Cakes by Happy Eatery originally opened in Alexandria, moved to Centreville in 2002, and has been located in Manassas since 2009; and
WHEREAS, Woei and Fu-Mei Wu's daughters, Victoria Wu and Emily Wu-Rorrer, have operated Cakes by Happy Eatery since 2000, although their mother still comes in nearly every day; and
WHEREAS, Cakes by Happy Eatery offers a full line of pastries, cookies, and other confections, with sugar-free, gluten-free, and vegan options; in addition to its hand-crafted desserts, Cakes by Happy Eatery was one of the first businesses in the region to open an on-site bubble tea bar; and
WHEREAS, Cakes by Happy Eatery produces works of art that taste incredibly delicious, with a talented team of bakers and pastry chefs creating and designing custom cakes and dessert bars for every kind of special occasion, event, or season; and
WHEREAS, Victoria Wu and Emily Wu-Rorrer are known for showcasing cutting-edge trends, creative recipes, and eye-popping dessert displays; they regularly appear as guests and dessert experts for television programs on NBC, FOX, ABC, and CBS affiliate stations in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Cakes by Happy Eatery is also proud to support the community by donating to local food banks and charities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Cakes by Happy Eatery, a beloved local bakery in Northern Virginia, hereby be commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the founders and employees of Cakes by Happy Eatery as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their legacy of providing excellent service to the residents of the Commonwealth.
