HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 480

Celebrating the life of Lamuel Scott Prater.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2025

WHEREAS, Lamuel Scott Prater, an honorable law-enforcement officer, dedicated coach, beloved son, husband, and father, and treasured member of the Chilhowie community, died on May 24, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Scott Prater worked tirelessly to serve and protect his community over a prestigious 29-year career in law enforcement, fulfilling various roles and most recently achieving the rank of lieutenant with the Smyth County Sheriff's Office; and

WHEREAS, Scott Prater guided many young people as a coach at Chilhowie High School, contributing greatly to their growth and development and placing them on trajectories for success; and

WHEREAS, Scott Prater was an avid outdoorsman who appreciated every opportunity to golf, hunt, and fish; and

WHEREAS, Scott Prater will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Angela; his daughters, Jordan and Madison, and their families; his parents, Lamuel and Jean; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Lamuel Scott Prater, a respected law-enforcement officer and cherished member of the Chilhowie community whose commitment to service made a difference in countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lamuel Scott Prater as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
