HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 477

Commending the Marion Senior High School girls' tennis team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2025

WHEREAS, the Marion Senior High School girls' tennis team won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship at Liberty University in Lynchburg on June 6, 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Marion Senior High School Scarlet Hurricanes defeated the Central High School Falcons of Woodstock by a score of 5–1 to bring home the program's second consecutive state championship title; and

WHEREAS, in the No. 4 singles event, junior Bailey Russell came from behind to win a tiebreaker in her match, allowing the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes to secure victory on singles events alone; and

WHEREAS, the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes claimed their title in commanding fashion, losing only three sets in the state championship and a total of five matches throughout the entire state tournament run; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the team's victory, the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes' Parker White won her third consecutive Virginia High School League Class 2 individual title at the state tournament, and she placed runner-up with her teammate Madelyn Austin in the doubles competition; and

WHEREAS, the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes' achievements are a testament to the hard work and perseverance of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Marion Senior High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Marion Senior High School girls' tennis team hereby be commended for winning the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Marion Senior High School girls' tennis team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements.
