HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 453
Commending Leland Teets.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2025
WHEREAS, Leland Teets of Frederick County, a highly admired veteran of World War II and a retired federal government employee, celebrated his 100th birthday on June 25, 2024; and
WHEREAS, at the outset of World War II, Leland Teets joined many of the other young men of his generation and enlisted for military service; he initially trained as a field artillerist, but was transferred to an infantry unit prior to deployment; and
WHEREAS, on June 6, 1944, Leland Teets participated in the Utah Beach landings during the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France; a few days later, he was wounded by an enemy sniper while patrolling the hedgerows of the northern French countryside and sent to England for treatment; and
WHEREAS, with injuries to both legs, Leland Teets spent 153 days in hospital care, followed by several weeks in a rehabilitation facility, then returned to his unit in December 1944; and
WHEREAS, Leland Teets participated in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest, where Allied troops bravely halted the last major German offensive on the Western Front, and resumed the march to Berlin; and
WHEREAS, after his honorable military service, Leland Teets returned to the United States and pursued a 35-year career as a security officer at the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center in Clarke County; and
WHEREAS, after his wife passed away in 2008, Leland Teets retired and moved to the English Meadows Senior Living Stephens City Campus, where he remains an active and engaged member of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Leland Teets hereby be commended for his personal and professional achievements on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leland Teets as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his lifetime of contributions to the Commonwealth and the nation.
