SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 300

Commending Michael Carter.



Agreed to by the Senate, February 22, 2025

WHEREAS, Michael Carter, an educator at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, was named the Plumbing Instructor of the Year by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors–National Association in 2024; and

WHEREAS, Michael Carter joined his father's plumbing business while still a teenager and excelled in the trade for several years before a back injury and multiple surgeries led him to consider a different career path; and

WHEREAS, seven years ago, Michael Carter embarked upon a career as an educator when he joined the faculty at Gar-Field High School, and he quickly learned he had a gift for connecting with and educating young people; and

WHEREAS, Michael Carter has built strong and supportive relationships with his students by emphasizing trust and mutual respect, and he imposes high expectations on his class to encourage his students to achieve their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Michael Carter shares practical, hands-on knowledge and expertise with his students with the intention of preparing them to succeed not only in class, but in their professional lives after school; and

WHEREAS, Michael Carter is notably the first high school teacher to win the Instructor of the Year award in the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors–National Association's 100-year history; and

WHEREAS, with a deep commitment to the well-being of his students, Michael Carter has exemplified the ideals of the education profession and is deserving of the esteem and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Michael Carter hereby be commended for being named the 2024 Plumbing Instructor of the Year by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors–National Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael Carter as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's high regard for his contributions to the education of young people in the Commonwealth.
