SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 283
Commending Janet V. Green.
Agreed to by the Senate, February 20, 2025
WHEREAS, Janet V. Green announced her plans to retire as chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg after more than two decades of outstanding service to families in Hampton Roads; and
WHEREAS, Janet Green previously worked as an operations director in the White House for the Clinton administration, making numerous contributions to the AmeriCorps service program, a bipartisan initiative that brings together people of all backgrounds to strengthen their communities; and
WHEREAS, Janet Green next served as deputy convention manager and executive director of the Democratic National Committee, then relocated to Hampton Roads to help care for her mother after she was diagnosed with cancer; and
WHEREAS, when Janet Green joined Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg in 2003, she was one of only three employees, along with the founder and a construction supervisor; since that time, she has overseen significant growth of the organization and touched countless lives throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, under Janet Green's leadership, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg expanded its operating budget from $250,000 to more than $8 million; she has overseen the construction or renovation of more than 500 homes, including the first 3D-printed Habitat for Humanity home in the country; and
WHEREAS, Janet Green established three successful ReStores, nonprofit home improvement and donation centers, in Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Newport News; and
WHEREAS, among many awards and accolades, Janet Green received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hampton Roads Housing Consortium in November 2024; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Janet V. Green hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Janet V. Green as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her contributions to housing stability in Hampton Roads.
