SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 436

Commending John Ulfelder.

WHEREAS, John Ulfelder, an esteemed public servant, retired from his position as the Dranesville District representative on the Fairfax County Planning Commission in 2024; and

WHEREAS, a retired attorney and senior vice president of the real estate development company West*Group, John Ulfelder previously chaired the Great Falls Citizens Association from 1997 to 2000 and led its Land Use and Zoning Committee from 2001 to 2005; and

WHEREAS, John Ulfelder has served on the last four Dranesville District Area Plan Review Task Forces, including as task force chair during the 2004 and 2008 reviews; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, John Ulfelder was appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to serve on the Fairfax County Planning Commission as the representative of the Dranesville District, which includes McLean, Great Falls, Herndon, and the West Falls Church Metro Station area; he has also served as the commission's parliamentarian during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, John Ulfelder has made an outsized impact on the community through his service on the boards of the Inova Healthy Foundation, Northern Virginia Regional Park Foundation, Great Falls Heritage, Inc., the Virginia chapter of the Nature Conservancy, WETA, the McLean Orchestra, the McLean Project for the Arts, and various other task forces and commissions; and

WHEREAS, John Ulfelder has demonstrated a deep and unwavering commitment to the success and well-being of Fairfax County and its residents throughout his many years of public service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John Ulfelder for his legacy of service upon his retirement from the Fairfax County Planning Commission; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Ulfelder as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to Fairfax County and the Commonwealth.
