SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 431
Commending Kian Tatsuo Linam.

WHEREAS, Kian Tatsuo Linam, a student at South Lakes High School in Fairfax County, received a YoungArts award in the category of jazz piano from the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists in both 2024 and 2025; and
WHEREAS, while still in the early years of his musical career, Kian Linam has already played alongside a number of distinguished acts, including Ashlin Parker & the Trumpet Mafia, Alison Crockett, Will “Mobetta” Ledbetter, Romeir Mendez, and Shawn Purcell; and
WHEREAS, Kian Linam's talents have earned him the opportunity to perform at several prominent venues and events in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including Blues Alley, the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Fest, the Hamilton, the Carlyle Room, the National Press Club, and Reston Town Center's Summer Concert Festival; and
WHEREAS, since 2020, Kian Linam has served as one of the pianists for the Blues Alley Youth Orchestra led by Michael Bowie, an elite ensemble of young musicians dedicated to preserving big band jazz; and
WHEREAS, Kian Linam works tirelessly to hone his skills under the mentorship of Eric Byrd and Dan Nimmer, two accomplished musicians who play with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra; and
WHEREAS, Kian Linam's YoungArts awards were presented in recognition of his superb musical abilities, mature artistic vision, and remarkable commitment to his craft; and
WHEREAS, Kian Linam's accomplishments are the result of his hard work and dedication, the leadership and guidance of his teachers, and the unwavering support of his family and the entire South Lakes High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Kian Tatsuo Linam for receiving a YoungArts award in 2024 and 2025 from the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kian Tatsuo Linam as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements and best wishes for his continued success.
