Commending Mia Mortman.

WHEREAS, Mia Mortman, a student at McLean High School, received a YoungArts award in the category of classical voice from the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists in 2025; and
WHEREAS, Mia Mortman discovered her love of opera while rehearsing for the role of Glinda in her middle school theater class's production of The Wizard of Oz; and
WHEREAS, Mia Mortman began training under professional voice coaches, attending linguistic fluency and diction classes, and practicing daily to hone her abilities as an opera singer; and
WHEREAS, Mia Mortman's talent and drive have led to several prestigious performance opportunities, including at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Interlochen Arts Camp; and
WHEREAS, Mia Mortman's musical pursuits also include serving as president and student conductor of the McLean High School choir's treble chorus and participating in the faith-based Sing Unto God songleader fellowship; and
WHEREAS, beyond music, Mia Mortman is active and engaged at her school as the director of Crisis Committees for McLean High School's Model United Nations club and as an officer of the school's chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Mia Mortman's YoungArts award was presented in recognition of her superb musical abilities, mature artistic vision, and remarkable commitment to her craft; and
WHEREAS, Mia Mortman's accomplishments are the result of her hard work and dedication, the leadership and guidance of her teachers, and the unwavering support of her family and the entire McLean High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mia Mortman for receiving a 2025 YoungArts award from the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mia Mortman as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her achievements and best wishes for her continued success.
