SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 422

Commending Namaste Club.

WHEREAS, Namaste Club, a student group at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, was presented a Student Peace Award of Fairfax County in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Student Peace Awards of Fairfax County were established in 2006 to annually recognize one junior, one senior, or a student group at each public high school in Fairfax County who has worked to promote peace in their community; and

WHEREAS, every year, Namaste Club sponsors and organizes its International Night, or iNite, a large multicultural showcase that engages more than 500 students and is one of the largest events of the school year; and

WHEREAS, at Namaste Club's iNite, the various culture clubs at Thomas Jefferson High School present music, dance, and other traditions that are representative of their respective cultures; and

WHEREAS, in addition to cultivating connections and a sense of togetherness across the Thomas Jefferson High School community, the event also raises funds to support international charities; and

WHEREAS, in recent years, Namaste Club has given generously to ActionAid International, the International Rescue Committee, and other nonprofit organizations advancing peace and justice around the globe; and

WHEREAS, Namaste Club's efforts have made a positive and lasting impact on both the Fairfax County community and the world, earning them the esteem and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Namaste Club for receiving a 2024 Student Peace Award of Fairfax County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Namaste Club as an expression of the General Assembly's high regard for their contributions to Fairfax County, the Commonwealth, and the world.
