SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 412
Commending Karen Black.

WHEREAS, Karen Black, an assistant principal at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, was named the Outstanding Secondary School Assistant Principal of Virginia by the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals in 2025; and
WHEREAS, Karen Black has worked in education for 26 years, including eight years as an assistant principal, and has been the assistant principal of instruction at Great Bridge High School since 2022; and
WHEREAS, Karen Black cultivates a learning environment at Great Bridge High School that fosters her students' academic, social, and emotional growth and encourages them to achieve their full potential; and
WHEREAS, Karen Black's initiatives at Great Bridge High School have included transition classes to assist underperforming students, which have led to a significant increase in the school's English Standards of Learning pass rates; and
WHEREAS, Karen Black actively seeks new strategies and methods to improve instruction, and works tirelessly to mentor and support her teachers and facilitate their efforts in their classrooms; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to the success and well-being of her students and staff, Karen Black has embodied the ideals of education administration, earning the esteem and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Karen Black for being named the 2025 Outstanding Secondary School Assistant Principal of Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karen Black as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her contributions to Chesapeake and the Commonwealth.
