SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 250
Commending the Petersburg Home for Ladies.
Agreed to by the Senate, February 20, 2025
WHEREAS, the Petersburg Home for Ladies, a distinguished assisted living facility, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025; and
WHEREAS, established in July 1925, the Petersburg Home for Ladies was founded to help accommodate women from Petersburg and surrounding jurisdictions who could no longer live independently or who were unhoused; and
WHEREAS, the Petersburg Home for Ladies offers housing, tailored living, and healthcare to more than 40 residents; and
WHEREAS, the Petersburg Home for Ladies is supported by a dedicated staff who have been with the residence for years, including some who began working with the organization as teenagers, and their efforts to train future staff are key to continuing the success of the Petersburg Home for Ladies; and
WHEREAS, with the lowest resident-to-staff ratio in Central Virginia, the Petersburg Home for Ladies provides its residents an elegant living arrangement with exceptional and unparalleled care; and
WHEREAS, the board of directors of the Petersburg Home for Ladies is still composed of an all-female membership, thereby ensuring that the wants and needs of the ladies that they assist are kept in true focus; and
WHEREAS, the Petersburg Home for Ladies, which began as a dream 100 years ago, not only became a reality, but has continued to thrive to this day; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Petersburg Home for Ladies hereby be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Petersburg Home for Ladies as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's history and contributions to the Commonwealth.
