Celebrating the life of Shannon Clay Scott.

WHEREAS, Shannon Clay Scott, a highly admired business owner and public servant in Wise County and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on December 28, 2024; and
WHEREAS, a proud, lifelong resident of Wise County, Shannon Scott graduated from the former J.J. Kelly High School and what is now the University of Virginia's College at Wise; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Scott worked at the civil engineering firm Thompson & Litton for 14 years, then joined the construction firm Barnette Contractors, and subsequently served the residents of Wise County as assistant county administrator and county administrator over the course of three decades; and
WHEREAS, as county administrator, Shannon Scott ensured efficient and effective operations of county government and worked with the LENOWISCO Planning District Commission and the Wise County Office of Economic and Industrial Development to promote responsible growth; and
WHEREAS, a man of many talents, Shannon Scott and his wife, Shari, also served delicious meals to community members as the owners of Shannon's Restaurant for 17 years; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Scott provided his leadership and expertise to the Wise County Chamber of Commerce, the Wise Kiwanis Club, and the Wise Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Scott enjoyed fellowship and worship with the Wise County community as a member of the Wise First Church of God for more than 35 years; and
WHEREAS, Shannon Scott will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of more than 55 years, Shari; his daughters, Melanie and Marcie; his grandson, Corey; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Shannon Clay Scott, a pillar of the Wise County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Shannon Clay Scott as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
