Celebrating the life of Sergeant David Jay Benfield, Jr., USA.

WHEREAS, Sergeant David Jay Benfield, Jr., USA, a beloved son, brother, and friend and active duty veteran of the United States Army, died on January 1, 2025; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield grew up in Sandston, where he was devoted to God and his family, attended New Life Baptist Church, and shared a special bond with his sister, Madison; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield was bright and cheerful, with a particular fondness for the humor found in practical jokes; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield decided at the age of three that he wanted to serve in the United States Army and went on to fulfill this commitment; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield was a proud American patriot who joined the United States Army 10 days after graduating from high school; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield completed basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and advanced individual training at Fort Gregg-Adams, formerly Fort Lee, in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield served his country with honor and distinction for three years at Fort Drum in New York; and

WHEREAS, upon reenlistment, David Benfield was stationed in Italy, achieving the rank of sergeant on December 16, 2024; and

WHEREAS, David Benfield will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his parents, David, Sr., and Megan; his sister, Madison; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sergeant David Jay Benfield, Jr., USA, an honorable veteran whose dedication and legacy of service inspired all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant David Jay Benfield, Jr., USA, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
