Commending James R. Tucker II.

WHEREAS, James R. Tucker II has helped numerous young people learn more about state government in a dynamic, engaging, and educational setting as coordinator of the House of Delegates Page Program; and

WHEREAS, James “Jim” R. Tucker II is a native of Winchester and a graduate of Randolph-Macon College and Duke University; and

WHEREAS, Jim Tucker began his long and fulfilling career with Richmond Public Schools in 1970, teaching calculus and physics at the high school level and serving as head of the science department and assistant principal at Huguenot High School; he retired in 2006, having earned numerous awards and accolades during his distinguished tenure as an educator; and

WHEREAS, Jim Tucker joined the House Clerk's Office in 2007 and has provided outstanding leadership and guidance to the House of Delegates Page Program, giving young people from around the Commonwealth an opportunity to undertake a comprehensive study of the legislative process, gain valuable work experience, and develop life skills such as time management, public speaking, and professional etiquette; and

WHEREAS, under Jim Tucker's leadership, successive classes of pages have completed an array of tasks to ensure the smooth operation of daily committee meetings and floor sessions in the House Chamber; and

WHEREAS, Jim Tucker and his wife, Jane, have raised two children and three grandchildren, and outside of his career, he is an avid fan of the Washington Commanders, a model train enthusiast, and an active member of Reveille United Methodist Church; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That James R. Tucker II hereby be commended for his service as coordinator of the House of Delegates Page Program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James R. Tucker II as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements in helping young people gain a better understanding of the legislative process and an appreciation for the importance of representative government.
