Commending Howard G. Adams, Ph.D., and Eloise Adams, Ph.D.

WHEREAS, Howard G. Adams, Ph.D., and Eloise Adams, Ph.D., have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and the advancement of the African American community; and
WHEREAS, Howard and Eloise Adams's journey together began in 1960 at the Norfolk Division of Virginia State University, now Norfolk State University, where they forged a partnership spanning over six decades; and
WHEREAS, Howard Adams, born on March 28, 1940, in Pittsylvania County, has served in esteemed roles, including vice president for student affairs at Norfolk State University and executive director of the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc. (GEM), and is a recognized authority on mentorship and career development; and
WHEREAS, Eloise Adams has made significant contributions in the health and medical fields, transitioned into education as a teacher, earned her doctorate in molecular biology and genetics, and inspired many, particularly young women of color pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; and
WHEREAS, Howard and Eloise Adams have generously supported Norfolk State University, earning a place in the esteemed Emerald Society for their lifetime giving, and have left an indelible mark on the institution and its students; and
WHEREAS, Howard and Eloise Adams's legacy continues through their daughter, Dr. Stephanie G. Adams, who has achieved historic milestones, including serving as the first Black female dean of the Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University, and who is currently the dean of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Howard G. Adams, Ph.D., and Eloise Adams, Ph.D., hereby be commended for their outstanding contributions to education and mentorship and their unwavering commitment to advancing opportunities for African Americans in academia and beyond; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Howard G. Adams, Ph.D., and Eloise Adams, Ph.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for their achievements and contributions.
