Commending Bob Adkins.

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins, an esteemed business owner and public servant, has greatly served the Wise County community for many years; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins started working while still a teenager by hauling coal for his family and moved to Detroit after he turned 18 to take a job at the Bower Roller Bearing Company; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins later moved to Richmond to work for Standard Oil, then managed a Phillips 66 station for some time before returning to Wise County, where he ultimately purchased what would become the Adkins Wheel and Alignment Shop, which he owned and operated with the help of his son for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins' first wife, Marlene, died in 1994, and he married his second wife, Teresa, four years later; around this time, he embarked upon a career in public service when he joined the Wise County Board of Supervisors, which he has served for the past 28 years; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Wise County Board of Supervisors, Bob Adkins oversaw the consolidation of county schools, the establishment of a new power plant, the construction of a technology park, and the addition of many new businesses in the area; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins has supported local governments throughout the Commonwealth as a member of the Virginia Association of Counties, which he served as president in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins has given generously of his time through service as director of Wise County Emergency Services and on the boards of a number of local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Wise Appalachian Regional Healthcare hospital, the Virginia-Kentucky District Fair, the Wise County Public Service Authority, and the LENOWISCO Planning District Commission; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins is a member and deacon emeritus at Wise Baptist Church and has conducted mission work for the Baptist Church at various locations around the world; and

WHEREAS, Bob Adkins has been supported throughout his many years of public and community service by his wife, Teresa, and his children, Alan and Cynthia, and their families; and

WHEREAS, on September 19, 2024, Bob Adkins celebrated his 90th birthday, which provided an opportunity to reflect upon the extraordinary impact he has had on the Wise County community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Bob Adkins hereby be commended for his legacy of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bob Adkins as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Wise County and the Commonwealth.
