Commending Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

WHEREAS, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville hosted the 19th edition of the Solheim Cup, which brought some of the top women golfers from the United States and Europe and fans from around the world to the Commonwealth in September 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Solheim Cup is a biennial women's golf competition held in even-numbered years between Team USA and Team Europe; 2024 marked the first time the event had been held in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club is named for its designer, Robert Trent Jones, who has been called “the father of modern golf design”; the private club is often considered a masterpiece both for its breathtaking aesthetics and challenging design, and it is the only one of his courses to bear his name; and

WHEREAS, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club has previously hosted the Presidents Cup and has welcomed numerous professional golfers and high-profile amateurs, such as Michael Jordan and presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama; and

WHEREAS, in the 2024 Solheim Cup at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Team USA triumphed over Team Europe by a score of 15 1/2 to 12 1/2, the first time the United States had won the competition since 2017; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Robert Trent Jones Golf Club hereby be commended for representing Prince William County and the Commonwealth as the host of the 2024 Solheim Cup; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Trent Jones Golf Club as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the club's commitment to excellence and contributions to the region.
