Celebrating the life of Ivan Elbert Horton, Jr.

WHEREAS, Ivan Elbert Horton, Jr., an honorable veteran, accomplished farmer, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Fairview community in Scott County, died on February 9, 2025; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Fairview High School, Ivan Horton was drafted into the United States Army, and he honorably served his country as a medic during his deployment to Korea; and
WHEREAS, a skilled and knowledgeable steward of the land, Ivan Horton devoted many years to his family's farm raising cattle and tobacco; and
WHEREAS, Ivan Horton contributed greatly to the growth and development of young people over many years as a school bus driver with Scott County Public Schools, relishing the opportunity to connect with and bring joy to the children he transported; and
WHEREAS, Ivan Horton proudly served his community for 12 years as a member of the Scott County Board of Supervisors, making great efforts to promote the safety and prosperity of the locality; and
WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his Christian faith, Ivan Horton was a dedicated Bible scholar and Sunday school teacher and enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Purchase Ridge Community Church in Scott County; and
WHEREAS, Ivan Horton will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 69 years, Polly; his children, Christopher, Philip, Larry, and Mitchell, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ivan Elbert Horton, Jr., a cherished member of the Fairview community whose abundant love and compassion and unwavering faith inspired all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ivan Elbert Horton, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
