SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 274

Commending the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Agreed to by the Senate, February 19, 2025

WHEREAS, the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., an affiliate of one of the oldest intercollegiate historically African American fraternities in the country, has proudly served the Prince William County community for many years; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the need for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity to have greater representation in the Prince William County area, several members from various professional backgrounds generated interest in a new chapter and the official charter for the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter was issued on November 1, 2009; and

WHEREAS, through Phi Beta Sigma's Bigger and Better Business and Sigma Economic Empowerment Development programs, the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter supports many local minority businesses and entrepreneurs; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter implements a number of education initiatives, including Phi Beta Sigma's National Program of Education, Project Sigma Education Time, and the Sigma Beta Club, as well as the group's Blue Wellness Foundation Scholarship, aiding countless young people in their efforts to achieve success both in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter actively participates in several Phi Beta Sigma social action programs to foster the well-being of others, including the Sigma Wellness Project and Sigmas Waging War Against Cancer; and

WHEREAS, members of the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter inspire others to embrace their civic duty through Project Vote and advocate for causes they believe through the Sigma Presence on Capitol Hill program; and

WHEREAS, by making a profound and lasting impact in the areas of business, education, and philanthropy, the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter has helped to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., hereby be commended for its longstanding commitment to the Prince William County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
