SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 356

Celebrating the life of Jeremy Lathan Compton.

WHEREAS, Jeremy Lathan Compton, a beloved member of the Christiansburg community who devoted himself to public service as a firefighter, emergency medical technician, and law-enforcement officer, died on May 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, born in Radford, Jeremy Compton began his firefighting career with the Elliston Volunteer Fire Department in 2006, realized his dream by joining the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department in 2014, and became a professional firefighter and emergency medical technician with the City of Radford in 2022; and

WHEREAS, from 2016 to 2019, Jeremy Compton served as a deputy with the Radford City Sheriff's Office, where he played an instrumental role in developing the agency's crisis intervention team program; and

WHEREAS, Jeremy Compton's commitment to public safety and the well-being of his community was evident through the effort and enthusiasm he brought to his work and the care and compassion he showed to everyone he encountered on the job; and

WHEREAS, Jeremy Compton was a generous and supportive mentor to the younger and newer firefighters in his unit and was appreciated by all of his colleagues for his positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Jeremy Compton enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Alleghany Church of Christ in Christiansburg; and

WHEREAS, Jeremy Compton will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Kara; his children, Wyatt, Mason, and Cassidy; his parents, Richard and Susan; his brother, Trevor; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jeremy Lathan Compton, a revered member of the Christiansburg community whose courage, integrity, and dedication to helping others inspired all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jeremy Lathan Compton as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
