Commending Robert Alexander Pearson, Jr.

WHEREAS, Robert Alexander Pearson, Jr., a decorated veteran and a longtime employee of the United States Postal Service, has made numerous contributions to people in need as an advocate for veterans and people living with Parkinson's disease; and
WHEREAS, Robert Pearson served the nation during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army, earning the Bronze Star with oakleaf cluster and the Army Commendation Medal with oakleaf cluster for his meritorious achievements; and
WHEREAS, after his honorable military service, Robert Pearson worked for the United States Postal Service for 29 years, beginning as a substitute letter carrier and rising through the ranks to become a senior executive for human resources; and
WHEREAS, Robert Pearson continued to serve and support his fellow service members as a support counselor for veterans with mental health and substance abuse issues; he has also participated in Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs and the Million Veteran Research Program to study service-connected toxicity exposure as a potential cause of Parkinson's disease; and
WHEREAS, Robert Pearson has also participated in 18 clinical trials and studies for Parkinson's disease and has served for seven years as a Michael J. Fox Foundation public policy ambassador and currently serves as a delegate for the World Parkinson's Congress and as co-leader of a support group for people with the disease; and
WHEREAS, Robert Pearson is a leader in his community who oversaw the installation of new street lights, natural gas connections, sidewalks, and a school playground as the president of the White Oaks Burke Civic Association; he has supported other local initiatives to protect the environment and provide life-changing resources for the homeless; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Robert Alexander Pearson, Jr., hereby be commended for his service to the Fairfax County community, the Commonwealth, and the nation; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Alexander Pearson, Jr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his personal and professional achievements.
