Commending the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., an affiliate of one of the oldest intercollegiate historically African American fraternities in the country, has proudly served the Prince William County community for many years; and
WHEREAS, after 24 members of local chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi filed a petition for a new chapter in Woodbridge, the fraternity formally established the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter during a chartering ceremony at Quantico on February 1, 1988; and
WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter supports Kappa Alpha Psi's Kappa Leadership and Development League, a career-development program dedicated to inspiring and empowering young men as they grow into their abilities as leaders; and
WHEREAS, since 2002, the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter has uplifted countless young people with scholarships and financial aid and advanced a number of charitable causes in the community through the Kappa Foundation of Woodbridge, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter and the Kappa Foundation of Woodbridge organize the annual William B. Croom Golf Classic and other events to raise funds to benefit local organizations and endeavors, including the Prince William County and Stafford County branches of the NAACP, Stafford Emergency Relief through Volunteer Efforts, Northern Virginia Family Service, the Red Cross Christmas Basket, the Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center, and Action in Community Through Service; and
WHEREAS, by making a profound and lasting impact in the areas of education, community service, and philanthropy, the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter has helped to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., hereby be commended for its longstanding commitment to the Prince William County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
