Commending Paul M. Platt.

WHEREAS, Paul M. Platt, an esteemed educator, has devoted 60 years as an employee of the Mountain Mission School in Grundy; and
WHEREAS, born to a preacher's family in the Midwest, Paul Platt lived in various states in his childhood and later graduated from North Dallas High School in Dallas, Texas, in 1962; and
WHEREAS, Paul Platt pursued a bachelor's degree from Dallas Christian College in the early 1960s, during which time he served as a janitor and church secretary at his home church, North Dallas Christian Church, and began ministry work at Forest Grove Christian Church in Rockdale and Northwest Christian Church in Dallas; and
WHEREAS, after graduating in 1965, Paul Platt joined his wife, Jennie, at Mountain Mission School, where she was a teacher, beginning an illustrious career in education that has spanned the past six decades; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Paul Platt took extension classes from Pikeville College, now the University of Pikeville, the University of Virginia, Radford University, and Southwest Virginia Community College to improve his abilities as an educator; in 1982, the culmination of his studies led to a master's degree in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure at Mountain Mission School, Paul Platt has worked tirelessly to support his students' academic, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being, making a difference in countless lives; and
WHEREAS, Paul Platt has embodied the ideals of teaching over his 60 years at Mountain Mission School and earned the respect and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That Paul M. Platt hereby be commended on the occasion of his 60th anniversary with Mountain Mission School; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Paul M. Platt as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his contributions to Grundy and the Commonwealth.
