Celebrating the life of Louis Mansfield Johnson.

WHEREAS, Louis Mansfield Johnson, a youth leader and an active and beloved member of the Fredericksburg community, died on March 2, 2016; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known by family and friends as “Buzzy,” Louis Johnson attended Fredericksburg City Public Schools and graduated from James Monroe High School in 1977 before attending Virginia Union University; and

WHEREAS, Louis Johnson returned to Fredericksburg and worked tirelessly for the benefit of others in a variety of human services professions throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, Louis Johnson organized and led a number of local programs and activities designed to help young people achieve their full potential, and his tireless efforts made a positive and lasting impact on the lives of thousands of young people; and

WHEREAS, Louis Johnson's endeavors in support of Fredericksburg youth included founding and coaching the Fredericksburg Lady Runners basketball squad, serving as an assistant boys' basketball coach at James Monroe High School, and spearheading the establishment of the Boys & Girls Club of Fredericksburg; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Louis Johnson enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Second New Hope Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County for many years, where he served in the youth ministry and initiated the church's annual youth revivals; and

WHEREAS, Louis Johnson later became a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Old Site, in Fredericksburg and dedicated himself to leading and supporting the congregation's youth in their spiritual journeys; and

WHEREAS, Louis Johnson is fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 16 years, Sharon; his children, Ronnie and Malik; his mother, Shirley; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Louis Mansfield Johnson, a cherished member of the Fredericksburg community whose faith, integrity, and legacy of service inspired all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Louis Mansfield Johnson as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
