AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to direct the Board of Pharmacy to promulgate regulations authorizing emergency medical services agencies and regional emergency medical services councils to obtain a controlled substances registration.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. That the Board of Pharmacy shall promulgate regulations authorizing emergency medical services (EMS) agencies and regional EMS councils to obtain a controlled substance registration under 18VAC110-20-690 and 18VAC110-20-710 of the Virginia Administrative Code. Such regulations shall specify that a properly registered fire station or properly registered EMS station that is fully staffed shall be allowed to store controlled substances in an automated dispensing device that is located in a locked room with an access control device and camera monitoring system without requiring a third-party security system.
