Commending the Virginia Union University football team.

WHEREAS, the Virginia Union University football team won the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship on November 16, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Union University Panthers defeated the Virginia State University Trojans by a score of 17–13 to bring home the program's second consecutive Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship for the first time in more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Jada Byers led the charge for the Virginia Union Panthers and earned most valuable player honors after rushing for 178 yards and a touchdown; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Union University's quarterback Mark Wright contributed 96 passing yards and a touchdown, while Reginald Vick, Jr., made a decisive impact with receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown; and
WHEREAS, on the defensive end, Shamar Graham anchored the Virginia Union Panthers with 11 tackles and a sack, while William Davis sealed the victory with a late-game interception; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Virginia Union Panthers are the result of the hard work and determination of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and professors, and the unwavering support of the entire Virginia Union University community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Virginia Union University football team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Union University football team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements and best wishes for its continued success.
