AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE

A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding sections numbered 22.1-288.3 and 63.2-912.1, relating to school board employees; records; redaction of foster parent's address upon written request.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding sections numbered 22.1-288.3 and 63.2-912.1 as follows:

§ 22.1-288.3. Records; redaction of foster parent's address upon written request.

Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, upon written request of a foster parent of an enrolled student, a school board employee shall redact the address of the foster parent prior to providing to the student's parent any record containing such address.

§ 63.2-912.1. Notification of certain rights of foster parents of public school students.

At the time that a child is placed in foster care, each local department of social services shall, if applicable, notify the foster parents of their right to make a written request as set forth in § 22.1-288.3.
